EA Games pull popular games

Ouch! EA Games the makers of The Sims Social, SimCity Social and Pet Society have announced they are retiring those games from Facebook. The game maker has left a bad taste in the mouths of its customers.

Considering users have spent money and time playing those once popular games, for many its a surprising move.

In a statement Electronic Arts, who have made many of the more popular Facebook Games, said;

After millions of people initially logged in to play these games, the number of players and amount of activity has fallen off.

EA Games have promised to continue making games for the Facebook platform. But I imagine many users will now think twice before investing hard earned cash into their games.

Really upset with #eagames and #simcitysocial. Considering I spent money, I think that's a terrible way to treat your fans & customers.
— HELLOH MOLLY(@HELLOH_MOLLY) April 15, 2013

Own Goal

The announcement by EA Games on Monday was truly an own goal. Especially as it arrived only days after the company was voted ‘Worst Company in America” by its customers on the Consumerist.com

EA Games has been voted ’Worst Company in America” now for two years in a row. Not an honor any large company wishes to have.

Congratulations to EA Games for being the Worst Company In America two consecutive years! consumerist.com/2013/04/09/ea-…
— Kevin Stanfield (@StanfieldGlobal) April 9, 2013

Come on EA, pull yourself up by the socks!

A very sensible approach from the people over at Google which will make life a little easier for next of kin.

Digital Afterlife

Indeed, supposing you wouldn’t wish for your next of kin access to your Google email? They’ve thought of that too, you can choose to have all email deleted after a period of time. Don’t worry, a text message will be sent to your mobile before they do!

Scirra the makers of Construct 2, the HTML5 game making software have boasted you can create great and exciting games without the need for programming. Indeed they are correct!

I surveyed their website prior to downloading the free game making software and discovered the large, active and growing community plus their site has great tutorials to get the beginner off to a running start. Why you might ask is a large active community of value? I think its one of their strongest points because if you have a question it will get answered in good time, plus its one of the best ways to learn all the tricks of the trade – i.e. from other more advanced users.

After downloading the free version of the software I immediately got to work making my first HTML5 Game. Using one of the great tutorials I had my first game up and running in no time. Here it is >> GAME << why not give it a go. Use the arrow keys to move around and shoot direction with the mouse and left click to do the damage to the bad guys.

I was so impressed I purchased the standard edition that is currently at half price, only €23!!

Go on, give it a go and lets see what you create today!
